Poyntington lies two miles north of Sherborne. The site is believed to have been used as a retreat for the monks from Sherborne Abbey before its conversion to a private house some time in the fifteenth century. We have restored the house taking into account the many alterations made over the centuries, the principal ones dating from 1485, 1707 and finally 1907.
Poyntington sits within six acres of land with the River Yeo rising just to the north of the property. The house sleeps up to 15 people (six double bedrooms and three single bedrooms). Two of the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, with a further two bathrooms shared between the remaining rooms. There is a heated swimming pool, tennis court and vegetable garden within the grounds.
Poyntington is two hours from London by train or 2 1/2 hours by car. Heathrow is within easy distance, as are Bristol and Southampton airports. Bath and Bristol are within an hour's drive, as is Salisbury and surrounding area including Stonehenge (40 minutes). The attractions of the South Dorset coast, including Lyme Regis, Weymouth and Sandbanks are less than an hour away.
The house is equipped with Super-fast Broadband throughout with printers and chargers available for personal use. Sonos music system is installed in every downstairs room as well as several of the larger bedrooms. There are three televisions, access to Amazon Prime and Netflix as well as a large collection of DVDs to choose from. A full-time cleaner and groundsman are included in the price of your stay. A cook can be arranged for the duration of your stay at prior notice.
